Superbad

Interview,  August, 2007  by Stephen Mooallem

Review: SUPERBAD (Columbia) Directed by Grog Mottola

Written by Knocked Up's Seth Rogen and collaborator Evan Goldberg, Superbad has a classic setup: The film tracks a night in the life of two severely uncool, attached-at-the-hip high school seniors named, conveniently, Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera). The rub is that they are headed to different colleges, so what happens here, they surmise, will be their last hurrah. Without spoiling the fun, what follows is quite possibly the funniest teen movie in years, all heart and balls (quite literally, on both counts). In fact, if Superbad isn't the funniest movie of 2007, then the usual procession of Oscar films this fall must be a laugh-a-minute. In any case, remember the name McLovin--it's about to enter the pop lexicon.
