The weekend players: they want to take your mind off the 9-5. And they do

When you hear good music and then learn that it came about organically, somehow it sounds even better. Such is the case with this London-based group made up of vocalist Rachel Foster and producer Andy Cato, of Groove Armada. Their new U.S. debut, Pursuit of Happiness (WSM/ffrr), is an eclectic mix of jazz, lounge, and just the right amount of electronica.

The duo wrote their first song together in '99. "But we didn't have a big plan in mind at all," says Foster, 31. It wasn't until more than a year later, when a friend accidentally discovered the track "21st Century" gathering dust on a shelf, that they finished the album.

"We had to try to fill in the gaps without being too conscious of being contrived," explains Foster. One listen to Pursuit of Happiness proves there's no danger there.
