About a Boy
Interview, June, 2002 by Guy Lesser
Directed by Paul and Chris Weitz (Universal Pictures)
Hugh Grant fans will be happier with the Weitz's adaptation of Nick Hornby's bestseller, About a Boy, than Hornby fans. While the film nicely captures the flavor of London's upper-middle class, its attempt to be a poignant comedy lacks the necessary imagination. Grant sports a new hairstyle, but his role is essentially unchanged from Bridget Jones's Diary and Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994).
