Roche and Lavaux - French architects - Brief Article - Interview

Interview,  Oct, 2001  by Chrissy Persico

WHERE TECHNO AND ORGANIC MEET

Francois Roche and Stephanie Lavaux, partners in the Paris-based architecture firm R & Sie, have until now designed solely conceptual projects. This fall they will complete their first building, a house. CHRISSY PERSICO: Your work involves a lot of very theoretical concepts, such as displacement and morphing, which you've demonstrated in computer images.

FRANCOIS ROCHE: We've been inspired by films and videos such as Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Michael Jackson's "Black or White." The computer process we use [to show them] is not made to represent the building, but rather to reveal a mutation of the territory itself.

CP: Why has the name of your firm changed so frequently?

FR: The firm transforms based on the people we work with.
