Movie News—Julie Durand - French filmmaker - Brief Article - Interview

Interview,  Oct, 2001  by Scott Lyle Cohen

PUTTING SMILES ON FACES

SCOTT LYLE COHEN: Your debut film, Du Poil Sous les Roses, has been called a French rip-off of American Pie. Is this fair?

JULIE DURAND: No. The director has been asked this question. The script was already written before American Pie came out. I saw American Pie, and I don't think the films have the same spirit or same kind of humor.

SLC: Who in American film is doing work that interests you?

JD: I love Christina Ricci and Chloe Sevigny. They've got something deep within them and I am drawn to that. I am moved by their work.
