Kristine W. - Review - sound recording review
Interview, Sept, 2000 by Tom Lanham
Stronger (RCA)
Talk about pearls before swine. Her handlers, producers, and "prescient" powers-that-be have recast the glorious showgirl/disco-diva Kristine W as a bubbly Britney Spears. Fatal mistake. It's not only unbecoming, it's downright embarrassing. The dusky thrush (who trilled so soulfully on her brilliant Land of the Living debut) does her damnedest to make the most out of Swedish-slick meatballs like the wah-ooh-chorused "If Only You Knew" and "Pieces of Me and You," but her voice gets lost in the shuffle. A few times she's allowed to shine (in "Clubland" and the cocktail-ish "All That Glitters"), but it's a losing battle. This will be some tough tarnish to buff from her dance-floor-queen tiara.
