The Cure. - Brief Article - Review - sound recording review

Interview,  March, 2000  by Matt Diehl

Bloodflowers (Elektra)

"The fire is almost out," emotes the Cure's cryptic leader, Robert Smith, on the band's twentieth album. Unfortunately, that metaphor isn't so cryptic--Smith claims Bloodflowers may be the Cure's final album. As the last nail in the coffin, though, it's a good one: Dense, echoing songs laced with indelible pop melodies recall classic Cure. Powering the album's core, as always, is Smith's caterwaul; somewhere between a moan, howl, and whine, his voice has proven to be one of rock's most unique and passionate voices.
