House of Sand and Fog

Interview,  Dec, 2003  by Lewis Beale

(DreamWorks)

Directed by Vadim Perelman

A recovering alcoholic (Jennifer Connelly) and a former Iranian colonel (Ben Kingsley) fight over the deed to a California home. When the woman's policeman lover (Ron Eldard) gets involved, the struggle evolves into tragedy. Helmed by first-timer Perelman, Sand and Fog is a terrific but downbeat film about people who do all the wrong things for all the right reasons.
