Cafe tacuba

Interview,  July, 2003  by Robert Cherry

Cuatro Caminos (MCA)

This follow-up to the Mexican rockers' Grammy-bagging 1999 Reves/Yosoy is an end-run for rock's stylistic borders. With Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann on board, the quartet explores even grittier terrain of funk, jazz, and Latin music than on their last outing, all unified by locomotive rhythms, clanging guitars, and singer Ruben Albarran's snarling bray. The inventive results will likely scratch a niche that you never knew you had.
