Sen. Joe Lieberman is a mensch

* Sen. Joe Lieberman is a mensch. The Democrats have been trying to project strength against terror, and Lieberman is as close to the real thing as they come. At the convention, he said that "Islamist terrorists" are "as great a threat to our security and freedom as the Nazis and Communists we defeated last century." America needs "strong leaders who know when to use American power to destroy these Islamist terrorists." Maybe best of all: "To make America safe again, we must keep our military strong.

We must support our brave and brilliant troops--the new greatest generation--who have liberated Afghanistan and Iraq from murderous tyrannies, and who are fighting tonight in both nations to defeat terrorists and allow free and stable governments to grow there." Lieberman skipped Carter when listing the accomplishments of past Democratic presidents. Not that Lieberman was mainstream in Boston--he was the only prominent speaker to mention the liberations, and unfortunately the candidates he supports are not likely to be strong on terror at all. But at least he is something.
