Elizabeth Dole to give keynote at Hardware Show - Brief Article
Home Channel News, June 5, 2000
CHICAGO -- Elizabeth Dole, former president of the American Red Cross and one-time Republican presidential hopeful, will be the keynote speaker at this year's International Hardware Week, held in conjunction with the National Hardware Show.
Dole's presentation, entitled "An America We Can Be," is set for Monday, Aug. 14, in the Arie Crown Theatre of the Lakeside Center (East Building at McCormick Place), Chicago, from 8 to 8:45 a.m.
Dole's formidable resume includes working for five U.S. presidents and serving as a member of the Federal Trade Commission. She has held the tides of Deputy Assistant to the President in the White House Office of Consumer Affairs, Secretary of Transportation and Secretary of Labor. She was also a candidate for U.S. president this year. Her husband, Bob Dole, is a former U.S. senator who ran unsuccessfully for president four years ago.
As head of the American Red Cross, Dole oversaw nearly 32,000 staff members and more than 1.3 million volunteers who comprise the world-renowned humanitarian organization. Following four years of record-breaking natural disasters, she carried out an aggressive disaster relief campaign that raised $353 million to assist victims of disasters, and she launched an initiative to reach out to youth who are at risk of not succeeding because of social or economic disadvantages.
