The next generation

Custom Home,  March, 2004  by Richard S. Kligman

Enjoyed your article ("Career Counseling," January/February 2004, page 14), especially the quotes from Pat McNeil (he happens to be in my Builder 20 Club). While my daughter is only 20 months old, I'll certainly provide her with the opportunity to go into the business if she so desires. Should you be interested in doing a follow-up article with kids who followed their parents into the building industry, I would be happy to contribute. I am a third-generation builder building both semi-custom and custom homes in Michigan.--Richard S. Kligman. President, Superb Custom Homes, Novi, Mich.

This is a subject we've talked about exploring for a long time, and now the "On Your Mind" column provides the forum we need. If any of you who've come up through the family building business want to share your insights and experience, send an e-mail message to Bruce Snider at bsnider@hanleywood.com. He'll understand where you're coming from; Bruce grew up in a family business himself.
