Metagenics nutritional supplements help Sri Lankan Tsunami Victims

Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients,  June, 2005

Metagenics, Inc. has announced that it has made a substantial in-kind donation of nutritional products to aid Sri Lankan victims of the Asian Tsunami. "Metagenics' products have helped us save lives," said Jeannette de Langis, RN, a representative of Aid to Sri Lankan Tsunami Victims, a group of volunteer healthcare practitioners. "For many of the victims, these products are their sole food source right now." The donated products are being distributed in and around the town of Batticaloa, located in Sri Lanka's northeast region and one of the areas hardest hit by the Tsunami.

Metagenics' donation has a retail value of nearly a quarter of a million dollars and includes children's probiotics, omega-3 essential fatty acids, and nutritional bars.

San Clemente's largest private employer, Metagenics has a longstanding tradition of charitable giving. In addition to its in-kind donation, Metagenics employees also made a donation to the American Red Cross to help the Tsunami victims. The employees regularly support various local charities and shelters during the holiday season and have sent personal care items to US troops in Iraq. In October 2003, as fires swept over 2,600 acres in San Diego County, Metagenics donated electrolyte beverages and meal replacement products to area firefighters.

"Metagenics helps people around the world achieve greater health," said Janice Moore, Chief Operating Officer of Metagenics. "We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and wish to help in big and small ways ... in thought and deed."
