New guideline on fibromyalgia syndrome available

A new guideline is available to help clinicians relieve pain and improve quality of rife for patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), according to an Oct 10, 2005, news retease from the American Pain Society. Fibromyalgia syndrome is characterized by widespread, persistent muscle and joint pain, and an estimated 12 million Americans suffer from this chronic, difficult-to-diagnose disease. The guideline includes recommendations for clinical diagnosis and assessment, pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies, and strategies for treating children and adolescents with FMS.
