An author writes about her facility's implementation of a program to track implantable medical devices in compliance with requirements of the 1990 Safe Medical Devices Act. * "Legislation" reports that the Nurse Education Act and the National Institute for Nursing Research are in danger of losing their funding because of the congressional budget committee's resolution to balance the federal budget by the year 2002.

* An article on scalp replantation after traumatic injury states that only 18 full scalp replantations have been performed worldwide in the past 12 years. * The Journal reports that in-line skating accidents in 1995 are expected to result in approximately 40,000 injuries serious enough to require treatment. Most injury victims will be between five and 15 years of age.
