The "Headquarters Report" recaps a successful membership drive. AORN members received $10 for every new member they recruited during the drive. * An article addressing how lasers work is written for "those who shied away from high school physics." * In "legislation," AORN endorses the lower exposure limit for ethylene oxide proposed by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration.

* An article highlights an Institute of Medicine study that was presented at the National League for Nursing's biennial meeting. The study found there was no overall shortage of nurses and that an adequate supply of nurses should be available through the 1990s.
