CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AWARD

For the 2003 Congress, members of the Membership, Legislative, and Research Committees and the National Committee on Education selected five categories for chapters to compete in for Chapter of the Year Awards. These categories include membership, research, newsletter, continuing education, and legislative. Committee members solicited chapters to complete surveys, scored the surveys, and submitted the point scores to the Awards Committee. Members of the Awards Committee collated and evaluated points and used composite points to determine the award recipients. Chapter of the Year Awards recognize winners in each chapter size category (ie, small, medium, intermediate, large). Each category may have a gold, silver, and bronze winner. A chapter may be the recipient of the Chapter of the Year Award (ie, gold) in its size category only once every three years; however, chapters may be selected for silver or bronze awards in consecutive years.

For more information on the individual achievement or chapter awards, contact Lorrie Briggs, director of member support and development, at (800) 755-2676 x 367 or by e-mail at lbriggs@aorn.org.

WRITERS CONTEST AWARDS

The Writers Contest Awards recognize authors of quality AORN Journal articles. There are four categories for this contest--clinical/ambulatory, research, education, and management. At least one author of a manuscript must be an RN and an AORN member for the article to be considered for an award. All AORN Journal articles that meet this requirement and are published during the calendar year preceding Congress are eligible for the contest.

Winning articles in each category are chosen based on points awarded to the articles by AORN Journal editors, Editorial Board members, and independent judges. Winners share award money provided by ETHICON, Inc. Each winner of the Writers Contest also receives a certificate of achievement.
