Transplantation information available online - Congress Highlights - Brief Article

AORN Journal,  Jan, 2003

For the first time, up-to-the-minute information about the number of people in the United States waiting for organ transplantation is available online, according at a Nov 14, 2002, news release from the United Network for Organ Sharing. The site has several new features that provide multiple ways to view numerical standard data reports (eg, the number of transplantations performed each year). Charts are available in easy-to-interpret formats, and a drop-down menu allows users to add additional fields to the chart being viewed.

The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network web site (ie, http://www.optn.org) allows users to navigate easily through complete data on any medical topic in the world. Reports show the number of transplantations performed, people on the waiting list, median waiting times, and survival rates. These reports are organized on a national, regional, state, and transplantation center basis.
