More folic acid can lead to a happy heart

Better Nutrition,  Feb, 2007

Now is as good a time as any to make sure you're getting enough folic acid. The British Medical Journal recently published a study reporting that folic acid may contribute to a reduced risk of heart disease and strokes. Folic acid reduces homocysteine, high levels of which have been linked to increased heart disease and stroke risk.

The study also singled out DHA (found in omega-3 fatty acids) and vitamins B6 and B12 as vital nutrients for reducing cardiovascular disease risk.
