Happy hookers - newsbites - fishers - Brief Article

Better Nutrition,  Jan, 2003

Ever wonder why successful fishermen are always so darn chipper? It may be that eating their catch helps turn back the tide of depression. Strong links have been shown between the onset of depression and low levels of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids--the stuff your body absorbs from mackerel, lake trout, salmon, herring and sardines.

Omega-3 acids are highly concentrated in our brains and may help signals flow smoothly among brain cells. Don't like fishing, or fish? Omega-3s are also found in canola oil, flaxseeds, soybeans and walnuts. However you get your omega-3s, you may be able to spawn a better mood.
