By any other name - newsbites - therapeutic benefits of garlic - Brief Article

Better Nutrition,  Dec, 2002

Known as "stinking rose," garlic has been used for centuries to treat conditions linked to blood pressure, cholesterol and infections. Today, the medical community accepts garlic's benefits, noting that the pungent herb contains amino acids, germanium, selenium, zinc and vitamins A, B and C. But garlic's sulfur content also can kill friendly intestinal flora, causing colitis and dermatitis.

So if you take garlic, make sure you take probiotics such as L. acidophilus to restock good bacteria. And while garlic cloves might be more potent, capsules come in deodorized form--making social contact a pleasure.
