this year's taste test highlights the yummiest health foods

THE BALLOTS ARE IN and the votes have been tallied. At this year's National Nutritional Food Association (NNFA) Seventh Annual People's Choice Awards at the MarketPlace 2000 convention, retailers from all over the country participated in a blind taste-test of 89 different products in 25 different categories, ranging from beverages to baked goods.

At the awards, which took place in Las Vegas, Nev., Veat Gourmet's Veat Gourmet Bites took home the coveted "Best of Show" as well as the category award for Meat Alternatives. Most people were surprised at how closely the Gourmet Bites resembled chicken, and one voter said that they were "excellent."

Although we didn't ask for comments, some judges made notes on their ballots. The Tree of Life Bella Via Macaroni and Cheese was called "yummy" by one taster; Seeds of Change Tomato Basil pasta sauce was deemed "great," and the Jamaican Gold Cappuccino Mocha drink also got a "yummy."
