Nation's Premier Hispanic and Black Professional Organizations Team to Host Leadership Conference; Texas L.E.A.D. Leadership, Education and Diversity Conference

HOUSTON -- The Texas L.E.A.D. Conference -- initially conceived as a forum to enhance leadership skills, increase networking opportunities and inspire leaders of the Houston Hispanic and Black communities -- will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Thursday, July 29, 2004, at the Rice University Jones Graduate School of Management, 6100 Main Street in Houston. Over 300 participants are expected to attend the event hosted by the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) and the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA). The event is open to anyone looking to enhance or launch a career.
The day-long program will focus on leadership development and entrepreneurship, and will include keynote addresses, workshops led by industry leaders in small group settings, sponsor exhibit area with on-site interviews, and a networking reception. The professional development workshop topics will feature: "Women in Business," "Improving Your Negotiation Skills," "The Business of Sports: It's More Than a Game," and "How to Become a Force in Your Community." Persons on an entrepreneurial track will be interested in workshops entitled: "Sound Management Strategies for a Successful New Business," "Financial Resources for New or Existing Businesses," "Transitioning from Employee to Entrepreneur," and "Understanding Minority Markets," to name a few.
Dr. Melvin Gravely II is one of three keynote speakers scheduled to appear at the Conference. Dr. Gravely is Founder of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Thinking and is an expert on the subjects of entrepreneurship and business development. He is the author of six books including The Lost Art of Entrepreneurship, and his latest book, When Black and White Make Green: The Next Evolution of Business and Race.

About Texas L.E.A.D.: The Houston chapters of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs and the National Black MBA Association pioneered the Texas L.E.A.D. concept in 1998 as an idea to deliver leadership training in the Hispanic and Black communities. The idea grew into two effective events -- the Hispanic Professionals' Leadership Day and the Conference on Enhancing Black Leadership.
