Guyana airline banned from flying to two West African countries

Airline Industry Information,  April 5, 2005

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Guyana-based Universal Airlines has been banned from operating flights to Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Universal Airlines was to start operating a weekly service between New York and Guyana and then on to Sierra Leone and Liberia in late March, but Guyana was concerned that the planned service could contribute to an increase in the smuggling of weapons, drugs and diamonds, said the country's transport minister.
