American Airlines introduces fees for non-US paper tickets

American Airlines is to charge a fee on some paper tickets to encourage passengers outside of the US to use new electronic tickets instead of paper ones.

A USD25 fee will be charged in Caribbean and Latin American countries and a USD28 fee in Italy, Spain, Belgium and France. The UK will face the biggest fee of USD45. The airline said that 91% of its customers now travel on electronic tickets.

American Airlines also announced that it has applied for permission from the US Department of Transportation to launch a new service between Chicago and Nagoya, Japan in April 2005 and to resume its service between Dallas and Osaka, Japan in November 2005, reports The Associated Press.
