Indian air travel is likely to become more expensive during October 2004 as airlines try to cope with the continuing rise in the price of oil.
Executives from Indian Airlines, Air Sahara and Jet Airways have confirmed that ticket prices for all classes would more than likely rise in October 2004 by as much as 10%. Domestic fares are expected to face the biggest rises due to state taxes on aviation fuel across India.
State-owned Indian Airlines is understood to have sought the permission of the Indian Civil Aviation Administration to raise fares while the privately held Air Sahara and Jet Airways have both decided to raise fares by 14 October 2004, reports PTI.
