UK council introduces online school dinner payment service

Internet Business News,  April 7, 2004

INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Surrey County Council in the UK has introduced a new service that lets parents pay for their child's school dinner over the Internet.

The service will ensure that school children will never lose their dinner money, according to the council, and makes paying for school lunches quicker and easier. Parents pay by visiting the Surrey County Council web site at http://www.surreycc.gov.uk, inputting a code and then their credit card details.

Meals are bought on a half-term basis and any missed lunches are credited back to the parent.

Plans are currently underway to expand the service to all secondary schools in the region as well as nursery, infant and primary schools.
