My summer diet will go out the window if I make it up to Santa Rosa to try some (707.206.2833). Located in Sonoma County, California, Carter Doughnuts is the brainchild of Mark Carter, a professionally trained pastry chef who uses organic and artisan ingredients to make his one-of-a-kind treats. Instead of commercial, preservative-laden mixes, Carter uses quality ingredients including fresh eggs, real butter and fair-trade chocolate. For the jelly-filled variety, Carter makes jelly from local Syrah grapes. Carter Doughnuts are available at Santa Rosa markets.
