Flu fighter
Vegetarian Times, April, 2004
Black elderberry extract can ease flu symptoms and shorten their duration, Norway's University of Oslo School of Medicine has found. In a study of 60 participants ranging in age from 18 to 54, flu patients given the extract recovered from their symptoms in 3.1 days compared to 7.1 days for those given placebos.
Black elderberry is an excellent treatment, says Russell Greenfield, MD, of Charlotte, North Carolina-based Carolina's Integrated Health, commenting on the study. "It can be given to children and adults, and with no known side effects or negative interactions."
