Vegetarian Times, Jan, 2003
New studies from around the globe attest to the importance of vitamin E, found in almonds, wheat germ, turnip greens and other foods. Researchers from the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain, whose study on mental activity was published in the October 2002 Journal of Nutrition, found that elderly participants who consumed the most vitamin E performed better than those who consumed less.
Johns Hopkins University and Cleveland's Case Western Reserve University, in studies presented in July 2002, show that vitamin-E rich diets may help combat Alzheimer's disease. In the September 2002 American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers from Federico II University in Naples report a link between low levels of the vitamin and the risk of heart attack and stroke in middle-aged women.
