Not enough

Vegetarian Times,  Nov, 2002

Every year Americans become more aware of the importance of dietary fiber, but their consumption of it lags far behind their understanding. They consume only about half of the amount recommended for a healthy diet, a July 2002 report from the American Dietetic Association (ADA) says. Americans take in only about 11 grams of fiber daily when they need 20 to 35 grams. Most people don't even know how much fiber their bodies require, and more than 70 percent of those surveyed who said they consume fewer than 20 grams daily told the ADA they think that amount is "about right."

Hardly. The ADA recommends more legumes and fiber-rich cereals and breads along with fruits, vegetables and grains, all of which are most important for a nutrient-rich diet.
