Bread winners?
Women continue to earn less than men. Median weekly earnings in 2000 for full-time workers across the board were $473 for women and $618 for men.
Occupations with the highest median weekly earnings for women in 2000 were: pharmacist. $1,152; electrical or electronic engineer, $1,104; attorney, $1,053; architect, $938; computer systems analyst and scientist, $922; physician, $899; physical therapist, $808; and college and university teachers $805.
Who's smoking?
The more formal education a woman receives, the less likely she is to smoke. Forty percent of women ages 25 to 44 who did not finish high school were smokers; 34 percent of high school graduates were smokers; 24 percent of those with some college were smokers; and only 14 percent of those who graduated from college were smokers.
