India has signed new aviation agreements with Thailand, Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan.
The air agreements increase the volume of air traffic that can be operated by the three countries' designated airlines.
Specifically, the pact with Thailand allows carriers from both countries a maximum passenger capacity per week of 4,100 seats in each direction using any type of aircraft. Thailand's designated carrier will also be able to operate services to Mumbai under a code-share agreement with Air India.
The agreement with Sri Lanka sees the capacity allowed each week increased by 745 seats in each direction, as well as allowing the Sri Lankan designated carrier to operate to two new destinations, including Calcutta and Varanasi.
Finally, the air agreement with Turkmenistan increases capacity by 900 seats per week under a phased-in programme, as well as allowing the designated carrier of Turkmenistan to operate to Amritsar.
